TruthFinder is one of the up-and-coming competitors on the online background checks market in 2022. The company was formed in 2014 and has since been featured on a variety of sites from Bustle to CNET.

Its background check service helps you to connect with old friends, find out more about an online seller, and more.

In this review, I’ll cover the company overview, how TruthFinder works, its features, pricing, and other vital information that I collected through extensive research and TruthFinder reviews

TruthFinder Overview

TruthFinder has its headquarters in San Diego, California but functions as an online background and people search engine. It provides information mainly by aggregating all available data connected to the person that is on public records but it can also access some private information about an individual through its deep web mechanisms.

My research has shown that the company has a well-established presence on the background check market which is confirmed by TruthFinder consumer reviews on review platforms. The positive reviews praise the company for detecting fraudsters, impostors, and finding lost relatives, while the negative reviews said that there wasn’t enough information, the prices were somewhat higher than competitors’ and the monthly subscription was obligatory to view the report. It is worthwhile noting here that the company tried to resolve such complaints.

Where TruthFinder Falls Short

CONS No trial period
No pay-per-report option
Lengthy cancellation process

TruthFinder is best for those who want to find a person they have lost contact with or protect themselves from fraudsters and impostors, as TruthFinder reviews show.

What Is TruthFinder and What Can It Be Used for?

In plain terms, TruthFinder is a popular background check service and people search tool that you can use to find information about an individual

My research of background check services has shown that even though TruthFinder doesn’t have the shiniest reputation, nor does it always provide the information one hopes to find, its services are still much demanded by people. The most common search queries are for looking up unknown callers, finding an old friend, colleague, or relative, looking up your date, or simply checking what personal information about yourself is available to other people.

However, TruthFinder is not accredited according to the FCRA law which means that you cannot use it for an employee or tenant screening but there are other services for that purpose.

Main Features

TruthFinder offers a people search, a background check, and a dark web scan.  You can search by a variety of parameters and get the results almost instantly. The only faults are that sometimes the search may take a bit longer than expected and the reports may not contain enough information, but that only means that there’s not enough information about the person on public records. However, there are other sites that can run a deep web search.

Feature Description Rating
Types of searches Unlike its competitors, TruthFinder offers three types of search i.e. people search, background check, and dark web scan. 5

Dark web scan

TruthFinder’s dark web scan is certainly a standout feature because not many background check services offer it. As such, it is especially useful for people who are afraid that their identity or personal information might be stolen.

5

Search parameters There is a variety of search parameters, such as name and last name, reverse phone lookup, address, and email.  5
Type of information An extensive base of personal information such as a person’s education, military records, criminal records, financial records, social media profiles, and vehicle ownership. 5
Reports Reviews of TruthFinder reports state that these are accurate, organized, and comprehensive. 5
Turnaround time Reports are generated within minutes and are accurate.  5
Ease of use The TruthFinder signup process is easy but somewhat lengthy with Warning pop-ups. 4
Price TruthFinder subscription prices are a bit higher than the competitors’. 4

Although it is listed as a separate type of check, on further research I found that TruthFinder reports don’t distinguish between a people search and a background check. Instead, they provide background check reports that supply all the known information about an individual. But does TruthFinder notify the person about your check? Fortunately or not, it doesn’t.

How Much Does TruthFinder Cost?

You can get all of TruthFinders’ people search tools through subscription plans which are relatively affordable. I say relatively because TruthFinder reviews often complain about the prices being high although I believe that everything worth having comes with a price tag. Another common complaint is that there are no once-off reports nor a free trial.

Plan Price + subscription Number of reports Types of searches included
1-month  $27.78/month Unlimited  Background check
2-month $23.04/month Unlimited Background check
Reverse phone number lookup $4.99/month Unlimited  Phone number lookup

There is also an additional charge of $2 to download the report in PDF.

Reviews of TruthFinder also point out that since there is no once-off report, you will have to purchase a monthly subscription to check up on a person. I’d say that while there, why not use the unlimited searches to your advantage and check more people. You may be surprised by what you find out.

Ease of Use

After reading through the TruthFinder consumer reviews and going through the signup process myself, I can confirm that TruthFinder has a simple interface and step-by-step search and signup process. To be honest, it’s not quick as there are quite a few filters that your search passes through all with the purpose to provide you with the most relevant details. If you ask me if it’s worth it, I’d say that it is, because the outcome will be sorted and you’ll get accurate reports.

Additionally, the website navigation is straightforward, and you certainly don’t need to be a tech geek to find your way around.

Here are the main steps for performing a background check:

  1. Fill in all the information that you have about the person

       2. Browse the results until you find the person you’re looking for

        3. Register, pay and view your report

And don’t worry if you get stuck! Their blog and FAQs have detailed guides on how to run a background check from start to finish. Or, check our guide on how to do a criminal background check, and then you’ll know how to do it on various websites.

Customer Support

TruthFinder reviews state that most of the time, customer support is prompt and friendly. It can be reached 24./7 via phone at (800) 699-8081.

Truthfinder Alternatives

Finding a suitable TruthFinder alternative was difficult but the competitors with the most potential in the realm of background checks in 2022 are Better Future, Spokeo, and BeenVerified.

Ease of search

Some customers complain about inaccurate reports

Quick search

One of TruthFinder’s biggest advantages is the accuracy of its background checks. The details they provide are generally up-to-date and include contact information.

According to TruthFinder consumer reviews, the points for improvement are to make the prices more affordable, the signup and search process less lengthy but most of all, start offering one-time-search reports.

Is TruthFinder Worth It?

Whether you need to find a long-lost relative, check up on your date, or find out what’s available on the internet and on the deep web about yourself, TruthFinder can get you the most accurate and up-to-date report in a matter of minutes. Now you no longer have to be left wondering about people’s backgrounds.

Finally, if TruthFinder or any TruthFinder alternative makes you feel uneasy about having your information out there, you can ask for it to be removed or simply use an identity theft protection service.

Legal Disclaimer: TruthFinder is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act guidelines. You may not use the service or the information it provides to make decisions about consumer credit, employment, insurance, tenant screening, or any other purpose that would require FCRA compliance.
