Need to create professional, unique, and high-quality content for your brand but don’t have much design experience? Well, in this Visme review, we’ll introduce you to this powerful and beginner-friendly graphic design tool to help you create all kinds of branded content. We’ll look at features, ease of use, pricing, alternatives, and much more.

What Is Visme and How Does It Work?

Visme was launched in 2013 as an online brand graphic design tool, which describes its services as easy to use by anyone, “whether you’re a seasoned designer or you can’t be trusted with a box of crayons.”

The Visme platform can be used to create a variety of branded content, such as presentations, documents, marketing brochures, social media posts, and more. On top of being an easy-to-use design tool, its main benefit is a huge selection of ready-made templates, photos, icons, animations, and more.

Business plan users also get features to help them collaborate and manage projects company-wide. Today, Visme is one of the most popular graphic design platforms, with over 12.5 million users across 120 countries.

Main Features

While trying out Visme, the first thing that stands out is the huge amount of features. From the get-go, Visme allows you to put together almost any type of branded content with plenty of ready-made assets.

As can be seen from many Visme examples, it’s possible to create just about anything using this platform.

However, what’s more impressive than the number of features is that they’re thought out surprisingly in depth, cementing Visme as an all-in-one solution for all your brand’s content.

Content Types

Considering its claims to be an all-in-one solution to create brand experiences for your business, it’s important that Visme provides the ability to create a wide range of branded materials, which it does.

Visme provides unique tools and templates you can use to create a wide variety of branded content, such as presentation slides, charts and infographics, social media posts, short videos and animations, and professional documents, like proposals, training documents, marketing flyers, invoices, and letterheads. Few, if any, Visme alternatives allow you to create so many different content types.

One of Visme’s most impressive features is its massive collection of templates, with thousands of individual designs spread across all the content types. For example, under “Presentations,” you’ll find sub-categories like “Business,” “Education,” “Finance,” etc., while under “Documents,” you can find Catalogs, Brochures, Newspapers, Portfolios, etc.

Each template can then contain hundreds of individually designed slides across even more categories, and most of the professional-looking designs are pretty much ready to go out-of-the-box—all you need to do is replace the text and images with your own assets. Most Visme competitors don’t offer nearly as many starter templates.

Visme also provides a huge library of predesigned graphics that you can add to your content. These are broken down into line and shape drawing tools, icon packs, 3D graphics, and a whole range of animated graphics, usually with an illustrated style.

The quality of the graphics is really good, with a solid variety of stock standards and more creative options. For example, you can find animations with full laboratory kits, launching space rockets, and even home entertainment systems, which can be useful to support the subject of your document, as well as add a bit of life to it.

When designing documents using Visme, there are literally thousands of icons to choose from spread across categories like Animals, Celebration, Cloud and Network, Infographics, and Weather. The icons come in different colors and styles so you can choose something on-brand. However, you can also usually customize the individual colors. If you consider Visme vs Powerpoint, for example, the latter offers only 5% the number of icons than Visme does.

Data Widgets

With Visme being very aware that people tend to take in information better when it’s presented visually, it’s no surprise that it offers the ability to add various charts and data representations to your slides, documents, and other content.

In fact, the data capture tools are among the favorite features often highlighted in Visme reviews.

You can present data in the form of graphs and charts, diagrams, tables, and even maps, with the additional help of a range of small data widgets with elements like radial dials, pie charts, arrays, ribbons, clocks, thermometers, and more. These are also customizable in terms of the data they provide and their style.

Compared to most Visme competitors, it’s one of the few tools of its kind that allows you to make truly interactive presentations. For example, you can add animations that only play when certain actions happen, such as a click, or, link to other websites, videos, or other online content directly in your slides. You can even create actions that kick off certain events, such as intro animations or set hover effects.

Workflow and Collaboration

If you regularly use design software like Visme at work, the good news is that Visme’s Business plan offers team features that make it easier to work together on projects in an organization. Comparing Visme vs Prezi, these advanced workflow features are missing from more design-orientated tools like the latter.

With Visme, you can create separate brands with their own “brand kits,” which makes it easy to streamline your work for different branding styles. You can also set up separate workspaces to organize your projects and team members accordingly, which will help you streamline the overall graphic design workflow.

As impressive as Visme’s selection of other assets is, its photo collection might be the best feature, allowing you to search from a library of millions of stock photos gathered from Visme’s various partners. These images aren’t just photos, but also illustrations, GIFs, mockups (of smart watches, mobile devices, clothing, etc.), and cutouts, which can be integrated with your slide content in interesting ways.

You might wonder “Is Visme free” when it comes to photos and videos? Well, kinda. You do get a decent number of assets on a free plan, but it’s a very small sample compared to paid plans.

Flow Charts

Along with Visme’s data presentation tools, you can also create your own flow charts or diagrams, although of simple capabilities. Visme mostly provides you with various solid shapes that you can add to your slides/pages/posts as well as various types of lines to connect them. Still, it’s really easy to use for anyone that’s used some type of flow chart software before.

One thing I found useful was that you can actually add various apps to your Visme content, which is something that most Visme alternatives don’t offer. There are just over 20 apps that offer integrations with YouTube, Google Drive, MailChimp, Giphy, and even Slack.

These apps can allow you to do various useful things. For example, the Google Drive app allows you to access images, video, and documents from your GDrive and add them to your presentations or documents. The MailChimp integration allows you to import designs to your MailChimp account so you can use them in your email campaigns. And, the various video platform integrations enable you to embed videos into your content using just a link.

Presenter Studio

The presentation studio is an interesting new feature that’s useful in a remote working environment where you may not be able to give presentations live. It’s basically a tool that lets you record yourself giving a presentation you developed inside Visme and send it to your viewers, giving them an experience similar to a live presentation. Handily, Presenter Studio is built right into the Visme dashboard, so you only need to click a button to activate it before you can start recording.

This is another feature we found to be pretty unique to Visme when comparing it to others, like Visme vs Canva.

Ease of Use

As part of this Visme review, we wanted to get a sense of how easy this platform really is to use, given how important ease of use and speed are, especially in a high-pressure business context.

With that in mind, here is a short demo of what it’s like using Visme:

  1. Go to the website and click on any of the buttons to sign up. Remember that you can sign up for free.

visme signup

2. You can create an account by simply providing an email and password or using your Google/Facebook account:

visme signup step 2

3. You’ll have to answer 4 short questions to understand your business, needs, and how you’ll use Visme:

visme signup step 3

4. That will take you to your dashboard. As you can see, you can immediately browse the available templates and pick one if you’re ready to start creating:

visme signup step 4

The templates determine the appropriate dimensions for a specific type of content. You always start by picking a template that acts as a starting point for whatever you want to create.

If you want to start with a blank slate, you can select “Custom,” in which case you will pick your own dimensions and no pre-filled content:

To show you how easy Visme is to use, let’s create a simple presentation with Visme examples. The first thing we’ll do is choose “Presentations” and look for an ideal candidate. I’ll just take the blank one for now to show you how it works. However, you can start with a professional and attractive design by choosing a pre-designed template:

This is the Visme design workspace, which is often the most praised feature you’ll come across in Visme reviews:

visme example 2

To the left, you can find all the ready-made content, such as graphics, charts, and media as well as apps and integrations. You can find specific elements using the nested menu structure.

In the middle is a preview of what your presentation will look like. You can also zoom in or out like other presentation software.

To the right, you can add and navigate between slides.

First, if you click on “Untitled” in the middle of the top toolbar, you can rename your project:

You can add a background by going to “Photos” in the left-hand menu and picking one of the available pictures. Then, simply drag and drop it onto the canvas:

visme example 4

You can add a title and subtitle simply by clicking and typing on the pre-filled fields, or by going to “Basics” and “Header & Text” and choosing a design that you can drag-and-drop onto the canvas and edit to say what you want it to say. It’s this simplicity that really makes this software stand out from Visme competitors.

At the top of the preview pane, you can also style the typography:

With a basic welcome page done, we can add another slide simply by clicking “+ New Slide” to the right:

visme example 6

This will give you a selection of slide templates, which can help you think of ideas and choose a direction.

Visme saves your color palette from elements you use, making it easy to find the same color later on to keep a consistent palette throughout your presentation:

So, I’ll go ahead and change all the colors appropriately using the quick color picker.

You can usually customize an element by clicking on it and then clicking the “Settings” or “Edit” button at the top of the page:

visme example 8

Below, there are also quick options to change the dimensions or orientation. By using the available settings, you can end up with something like one of the Visme examples below:

visme example 9

By pressing the small icon between slides, you can open the transition animations panel:

visme example 10

Here you can choose the intro animation for a slide from the presets, and even adjust the timing and speed if you want in the timeline below.

You can use most of these features with a free plan. However, the selection of assets you can pick from will be highly restricted to only a handful, instead of hundreds or even thousands.

Once you’re happy with your presentation, you can download it to your computer as a series of images, a video, an offline slideshow, or PDF:

Note that if you only have a free version, you can only download a presentation or document in JPG format. Being able to download your creations in different formats is way more convenient and appropriate under formal conditions.

Alternatively, you can click the play “Present” button to run the slideshow right in your browser:

Play Visme presentation

And, that’s pretty much the basics of using Visme. This simple demo just gives you a taste of what’s possible, but there are a huge number of other features and tools to uncover and learn.
Also, if you’re a paid plan user, you can easily create a new workspace in the main dashboard just by clicking on the dropdown in the top left of the screen to open up your list of workspaces, where you can add other team members, or even clients, to your separate workspaces:

However, keep in mind that, with a Basic plan, Visme branding will be displayed on all of your creations, which is not super professional and most likely not suitable for business use.

Discounts are available for educators and non-profits. If you ever cancel a paid subscription, you can still use all of the content you created using the advanced features, you just won’t be able to use paid features for new content.

Customer Support

Visme Alternatives

Win Lose Best for
Visme vs Powerpoint Visme offers more advanced integrations and interactivity. Visme can have somewhat of a learning curve, while Powerpoint is extremely easy to use. Powerpoint is best for users who already have Microsoft Office and only need to make basic presentations for education, etc.
Visme vs Canva Visme offers more predesigned content and integrations. Visme is significantly more expensive than Canva. Full-time designers who want to automate social media posts.
Visme vs Prezi Visme allows you to create a wider variety of branded content. Visme has very basic video creation tools compared to Prezi. Prezi is better for making creative, non-linear presentations.

Although there might be other options that are better at specific tasks, Visme stands out for its breadth of features and capabilities, as few alternatives enable you to create such a huge variety of branded content. Visme usually outdoes its competitors in the number of ready-made templates and assets you get as a starting point, proving to really be one of the best options if you’re looking for a one-stop tool for all your branded assets.

Visme Review Conclusion

Visme is certainly impressive when it comes to the range of tools it packs into a single platform, not to mention the huge libraries of pre-made content you get. What’s more, the software is relatively easy to use, suitable for persons of all skill levels.

Is Visme any good?

Yes, Visme is an incredibly powerful and feature-rich platform for creating all kinds of branded content. As a one-stop solution for creating interactive presentations, short videos, various documents, social media posts, and more, in some regards it even has more to offer than popular alternatives, like Canva and Prezi.

Is Visme really free?

Yes, the Basic Visme plan is entirely free to use forever. However, while it allows you to do all of the basics and create different types of branded content, it’s severely limited in terms of storage space, advanced features, and premade content. And yet, it is enough as a starter tool if you are just starting your graphic design career.

What is better, Canva or Visme?

Canva and Visme have a lot in common, so which one is best depends on your needs and preferences. However, in our Visme review, we found that it offers much more ready-made content and has more advanced interactivity and integrations.
