Justworks started out with a simple concept: making it easy for entrepreneurs to run a business. The founder, Isaac Oates, understood the desperate need for a system that could help entrepreneurs save time on payroll, compliance, HR, and benefits (the boring but necessary stuff), and focus instead on their business’ goals.

After 8 years, 600+ employees, and ESAC PEO accreditation (only 5% of PEOs achieve this), Justworks has perfected its services. Most of the Justworks reviews on the internet are positive (average rating of 4.7/5). The company adheres to its values and gives off a cozy, sociable vibe.

In this Justworks review, we will cover:

Plans and Pricing

Justworks has comprehensive plans based on the number of employees. We haven’t been able to find any overpricing complaints in the Justworks plans reviews. The plans are as follows:

Number of Employees Basic Plus
Price per employee/(discount if billed annually) Price per employee/(discount if billed annually)
Less than 25 $49/month ($42) $99/month ($84)
Between 25 and 99 $44/month ($37) $89/month ($76)
Between 100 and 174 $39/month ($33) $79/month ($67)
175 or more Contact for quote Contact for quote

There is a flat 15% discount if an organization chooses to pay for the plan annually. Also, in the Plus plan, there is a discount for part-time employees. They will be billed as per Basic plan rates if they work less than 30 hours/week.

Hidden Fees

Transparency is one of Justworks’ core values, and they don’t charge any hidden fees later down the road.

Setup Fee

Setup fee is rolled up with the monthly (yearly) fee per employee, so there is no additional cost.

The price goes down as the number of employees goes up. Both plans include Payroll, Benefits, HR tools, and Compliance.

  • 24/7 support
  • W-2 preparation
  • 1099 filing
  • Off-cycle, vendor & contractor payments
  • HR consulting
  • PTO management

In both plans, companies have access to life and disability insurance, health and wellness perks, and a 401(k) plan.

The Plus plan includes some extras: access to medical, dental, and vision care services. Also, Plus plan employees get COBRA coverage, health advocacy, and One Medical membership.

Justworks Need-To-Knows

There are a few main Justworks services and features you need to know about before deciding whether it’s the right PEO for you. A PEO (Professional Employer Organization) is ideal for startups and entrepreneurs who want to offer their employees big-business benefits, without extensively investing time into processes related to employee satisfaction and wellbeing.

Justworks collaborates with several health insurance providers, including MetLife, UnitedHealthcare, and One Medical, to offer decent health benefits. There is a variety of plans that companies working with Justworks can choose from. Companies can also use the Justworks platform for automating 401(k) contributions for their employees. Other employee benefits include wellness insurance and flexible spending accounts. Using the Justworks platform, organizations can easily assign these benefits to their employees based on their plan.

The automated payroll feature of the Justworks platform comes with various perks like automated deposits (for both full-time and part-time employees), payroll taxes, one-off payments, contractor payments, split deposits, payment reminders, and notifications. It’s not just easy, it’s also compliant with employment regulations in all 50 states (and local employment tax laws), and the payroll can be integrated with XERO and QuickBooks accounting software. The tool is also refined for remote workers and freelancers.

HR Tools and Consulting

Every organization (regardless of its size) needs the best of human resources to grow and excel, but there are only so many things entrepreneurs can focus on when it comes to HR. This is where HR tools, like the ones offered by Justworks, come in handy. With features like onboarding, reporting, permissions, paid time-off, business metrics, employee handbook, and company policies, all rolled into one set of tools, managing HR can become easier.

This is one of the things that companies cannot afford to ignore or put off until later. Business owners can either spend a lot of time learning to navigate compliance issues or hire a service like Justworks to take care of them. Major regulatory compliance requirements that companies need to be aware of include state and federal taxes, worker’s compensations, training, employment practices liability insurance (ECLI), and other employee-related legal issues. The Justworks compliance solution also covers extras like harassment prevention training and COBRA plan management.

Full-Service Support

As Justworks’ internal team and client list kept growing, they started providing 24/7 support, especially for entrepreneurs and businesses that work around the clock. They offer benefits, HR, payroll, and compliance support. They also offer organizational development consultation and onboarding support. Some of these are only for admins; others are for both admins and employees. Companies can contact Justworks by calling, texting, or emailing them, using Slack or the platform’s in-built chat feature.

Additional Features, Programs and Resources

Justworks offers well-defined referral and partner programs.

  • Referral Program: Referral payout is based upon the number of employees the company you refer has. It’s $100 per employee, so if you refer a company with 25 employees, your referral bonus will be $2,500. It’s usually paid out within 30 days after your referral’s first payroll processing.
  • Justworks Partners: The company has a partnership program, specifically directed towards financial advisors, accountants, brokers, and HR consultants, who can recommend Justworks solutions to their clients. There are 3 partnership tiers: Bronze, Silver, and Gold (assigned based on how many customers you refer). Each tier has its own referral bonus ($100, $150, and $200 respectively).
  • Help Center: Justworks has a comprehensive set of documents and written resources for both employers and employees. The material provided on their website covers a wide range of topics like unemployment management, paycheck protections, tax credits, etc.

User Reviews and Testimonials

Going through some of the Justworks online reviews and comments that users left about the company, we learned that what most people loved about the company was its software, which allows businesses to save time and effort. Other things that people loved were its affordability and customer service.

What most people didn’t like about the company is that it doesn’t cater to every business. This decision is apparently made based on what type of businesses their insurance partners cover.

Let’s take a closer look at what Justworks reviews show:

Rating Highlights

  1. Google Review: 3.9/5 (Based on 82 reviews)
  2. Capterra: 4.7/5 (Based on 139 reviews)
  3. G2 (This review is about the Justworks platform): 4.6/5 (Based on 142 reviews)
  4. TrustRadius: 9.2/10 (Based on 27 reviews)

Legitimacy and Accreditations

Justworks isn’t accredited with BBB and has a single complaint on their BBB page, which is currently marked as resolved. Another slight blemish on Justworks’ record is that the IRS has suspended its CPEO (Certified PEO) status. It hasn’t been restored yet.

One of the strongest points in Justworks’ favor is its accreditation with ESAC (Employer Services Assurance Corporation).

Justworks Alternatives

Compared to many other PEOs in the business, Justworks is a relatively new service. However, according to the Justworks PEO reviews, it still manages to hold its ground against many of the established players.

  • Justworks vs Insperity

Insperity is a BBB accredited business that has been operating since 1986. Its full-service HR solution has additional features like risk management, and it’s capable of working for organizations with as many as 5,000 employees. In contrast, Justworks specializes in solutions for small companies with 5-50 employees. Insperity is too costly for small companies, as compared to Justworks. But if your business has specific needs and requires custom-built plans, or you have a large organization, Insperity may be the right choice for you.

  • Justworks vs TriNet

TriNet is much bigger than Justworks. It has over 3,700 employees and revenues in billions of dollars. It doesn’t publish its pricing. Compared to Justworks, TriNet’s medical plan list is more extensive, and they have a bigger variety of HR tools. On the other hand, Justworks’ simplicity and easy-to-use platform are some of its definite advantages. One problem with TriNet is that you may get billed for services that your small business simply might not need.

Wrap Up

If you are a small to medium-sized company that requires assistance with HR and payroll processing services, and you want a great platform to help with these corporate tasks, then Justworks might just work perfectly for you. One of the things that have been consistently praised in multiple Justworks reviews is the clarity and simplicity of its platform. With Justworks’ help, you can lessen your corporate responsibilities and focus more on your core competencies and business growth.
