What Is TukTuk And How Does It Work?

TukTuk is an online platform that rewards its users in cryptocurrency for buying products or services with participating brands or online stores. Founded in 2021, this Australia-based company’s mission is to make crypto more accessible to everyone by offering a way to make free crypto simply for spending online as you normally would.

In this way, TukTuk is very much part of the current movement toward the future of cryptocurrency as an accessible and ubiquitous currency used by everyone.

Their platform is built on PWA (progressive web app) technology, which means it can conveniently run in the browser, as a browser extension, or as a mobile app for both iOS and Android.

You can already get TukTuk rewards by shopping at over 1,500 online stores, and you can choose from 30 different cryptocurrencies to redeem your rewards.

After our review of TukTuk, we concluded it’s an awesome platform if any of the following applies to you:

  • You’re a beginner investor in cryptocurrencies or like to hold multiple coins.
  • You already know how to use a crypto wallet and have your own setup.
  • You frequently shop online, whether it’s fashion, travel, etc.

Main Features

Let’s see what you get with TukTuk in terms of features:

Online Stores

One of TukTuk’s main promises is that you can earn free crypto just by shopping as you normally would. If you regularly shop online, you probably only have a handful of online stores you trust or prefer to use for whatever reason. So, it’s good news that TukTuk can be used at over 1,500 different online stores.

Just some of the top stores of online brands and vendors allowing TukTuk are Microsoft, Nike, AliExpress, Trip.com, and Crypto.com. As you can see, many of these are international brands with a globally located customer base.

So, regardless of who you are, what products/services you’re interested in, or where you’re located, there are probably a number of online vendors you already use that are eligible for TukTuk rewards. And, if you know you’re going to spend a significant amount in the near future— on a business trip, for example—you can probably find a trusted online store that will also allow you to earn some crypto through TukTuk.

Coin Rewards

Of course, the coin rewards are the part we were most excited about during our review of TukTuk. As you probably know, there are a dizzying number of cryptocurrencies out there, and seasoned crypto owners probably have a diverse portfolio of cryptocurrencies.

So, we were happy to discover TukTuk allows you to receive your Crypto rewards in 30 different cryptocurrencies. The best part is that you get to choose in which currency (or combination of currencies) you’d like to receive your rewards. The list of cryptos is quite impressive, ranging from household names like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and XRP to up-and-coming coins like Cordano, Solana, and Algorand.

Categories

TukTuk rewards are possible across a huge variety of products and services, for both digital and physical goods. Fashion, travel, and lifestyle brands are by far the most common categories of eligible purchases, but you can also earn rewards from buying goods on some popular online marketplaces, such as Wish, AliExpress, and more.

The available categories even go as far as ISP subscriptions, insurance premiums, and digital wallet top-up services. In short, our Tuktuk review concluded there’s no shortage of eligible brands, no matter what kind of goods or services you typically buy.

Crypto Payouts

TukTuk’s crypto payouts are quite simple. The number of crypto rewards you earn will be calculated and transparently shown to you when you make your purchase, so you’ll know exactly how much crypto you stand to earn.

TukTuk will directly deposit the crypto earnings in your wallet as soon as the payment is eligible. How long that takes depends on the money-back guarantee, return policy, payment provider, and processing time of the vendor. So, the one complaint is that it can sometimes take up to a month or more to process your case. However, this is understandable, as it would otherwise be easy to scam vendors or TukTuk.

All you need to do to receive your crypto is provide TukTuk with your public wallet address. They don’t ask for any private keys or other compromising information.

However, you don’t need to manually keep track of your due payments or take any further action to get your rewards—everything is done automatically, which is pretty convenient.

Ease of Use

We were eager to find out whether TukTuk really offers the seamless online shopping experience it claims it does. So, we decided to test it for ourselves in terms of how quick and easy it is to set up and use. We’ll also include a quick review of the TukTuk extension for Google Chrome.

Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of our experience:

  1. Head over to the TukTuk website to sign up for an account.
TukTuk Sign Up - Step 1
  2. On the signup page, simply provide your country, name, email, and password to create an account:
TukTuk Sign Up - Step 2
  3. Next up, you’ll have the opportunity to select the type of coins you want to receive as your rewards. Keep in mind that you can change this later:
TukTuk Sign Up - Step 3
  4. As soon as that’s done, you’ll land on your TukTuk dashboard, where you can immediately see which promotions various online stores eligible for TukTuk rewards payouts are currently running. You can also use the search tool to look for promotions on any specific site. As you can see, TukTuk lists the maximum payout percentage you can receive so you know which promotions are worth it:
TukTuk Sign Up - Step 4
  5. When you click the “Shop” button next to a particular deal, you’ll first see this loading screen:
TukTuk Sign Up - Step 5
  6. Once it’s done loading, you can continue to purchase the product or service as you normally would. Once you’re done, the purchase should show up under the Rewards tap in your TukTuk dashboard:
TukTuk Sign Up - Step 6
  7. Next up, we’ll do a quick review of the TukTuk extension for the Google Chrome browser, as this is the recommended way of using TukTuk to get the most value. The extension will alert you when rewards are available for a website you’re currently browsing. It can also be used to link to your TukTuk rewards when you buy goods or services on an eligible website. All you need to do is go to the official Chrome browser extension store, search for TukTuk, and then click “Add to Chrome”:
TukTuk Sign Up - Step 7
  8. For example, if you visit Liquid Web, a leading high-performance hosting provider, you’ll see the popup on the left of your screen prompting you to activate TukTuk:
TukTuk Sign Up - Step 8

All-in-all, I was really impressed with how easy and efficient it was to use TukTuk, as it really slots effortlessly into your daily online shopping without much extra hassle. The only catch is that, depending on the vendor, it may take some time to get your payout, but that’s the case with most services of this type.

Regardless, in our TukTuk extension review, we found it to be a really effective way to make sure you don’t miss out on sales with a minimum amount of effort.

Pricing

The great news is that TukTuk is completely free. The idea of commission-based referral services like TukTuk is not exactly new, as this sort of affiliate marketing is a very common retail tactic.

We all know online stores and retailers have significant price padding built into their profit margins, so to generate more sales, they’re willing to pay a referral fee to services like TukTuk for referring customers to them. The hope is also that they can turn many first-time customers into repeat customers, which will help them recover any potential losses.

So, TukTuk basically receives a commission for referring leads to various vendors and then pays part of the referral fee back to the consumer. As we tested it hands-on, we’re happy to confirm in this TukTuk review it’s entirely free to use.

However, that’s why most commissions you can earn aren’t huge—the majority of commissions we saw fell in the 3–15% range. Nevertheless, it’s still completely free crypto, and every now and then, you can find some jaw-dropping offers too.

For example, at the time of writing, the graphic design platform Canva offered 45% payouts. Even more impressively, the Liquid Web hosting provider offered 105% discounts, which means you could effectively get more crypto than what you initially paid.

TukTuk also occasionally offers promotions for upgrading users’ reward tiers so that they receive slightly higher payouts than other users.

Customer Support

TukTuk customer support can be reached by submitting a ticket on their website, and they’re also pretty active on social media, with accounts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Linkedin. As it’s still a relatively new service, there aren’t many TukTuk reviews on consumer sites, but so far the user feedback seems to be mostly positive.

Alternatives

TukTuk might be new, but it’s not the first of its kind—you might actually be surprised by how many similar commission-based payout platforms there are on the market. Here are some of the best TukTuk alternatives to consider:

Wins Loses Best for
TukTuk vs SocialGood.inc With TukTuk, all users get the same amount of crypto returns without tiering. TukTuk is still a very new platform and doesn’t have the same track record as SocialGood. SocialGood is best for high spenders who can qualify for the top-earning tiers.
TukTuk vs Lolli App TukTuk offers rewards in over 30+ different cryptocurrencies, while Lolli only uses Bitcoin. Lolli App offers a slightly higher average payout percentage on your purchases than TukTuk. Lolli App is best if you want to focus on Bitcoin investment and don’t need to earn in other cryptocurrencies.
TukTuk vs Foldapp TukTuk doesn’t have tiered plans, and generally pays out a higher percentage per purchase. On top of getting rewards for your purchase, you can spin for the chance to win even more crypto with Foldapp. For those who want a debit card (or credit card) crypto account to transact or spend their rewards with.

The main benefit of TukTuk is that it’s one of the few platforms that allow you to earn rewards in so many different cryptocurrencies of your choice. Most other platforms only offer Bitcoin, or don’t let you choose in which crypto you’d like to withdraw your rewards. If you look at any reviews of TukTuk, you’ll see this is a clear benefit for most users.

It’s also really impressive, for such a new service, that TukTuk is already available on over 1,500 vendor websites. This is more than many of its competitors, and close to SocialGood, which is one of the most popular platforms of its kind. The available vendors are also genuinely popular options most people have bought from at least once.

Finally, it’s nice to know you get the maximum possible earnings from the get-go. Most other competitors split earnings by membership tiers, some of which come with a monthly subscription.

The only area where TukTuk falls short is that it’s a relatively new service, whereas many of its competitors have a longer track record to go by. It’s important to note that TukTuk is not really a crypto investment tool by itself, but can be part of a strategy to start investing in crypto.

Is TukTuk Worth It?

In short, yes, TukTuk is totally worth it. Although it may sound too good to be true, reviews of TukTuk found it to be a genuinely useful platform where you can earn something for doing nothing other than your day-to-day online shopping. By shopping at some of the most popular brands worldwide, you can earn back up to 105% in payouts in the crypto of your choice—it’s hard to argue with that!

FAQ

How does TukTuk send me my earnings?

For TukTuk to send you your earnings, all you need to do is provide your public wallet key. This key acts as a public address for your wallet, and is always visible to the rest of the blockchain network. Once provided, the released funds will automatically be sent to you.

Are all crypto coins available as a reward?

No. For now, TukTuk offers crypto rewards in just over 30 different cryptocurrencies. However, this is a lot compared to most alternatives, and you can choose which coin you want to receive your earnings in. The wide selection of supported coins is one of the main reasons why TukTuk reviews are positive.

Can I buy crypto on TukTuk.com?

No. TukTuk.com is not a crypto exchange or brokerage, and doesn’t directly sell or convert crypto. You simply get the crypto rewards in the displayed dollar amount when you make an eligible purchase, and when you receive them, you can indicate in which currency you want them paid out.
