Windows 11 VBS May Affect Gaming Experience

PC Gamer has published that the security feature of Windows 11—Virtualization-based Security (VBS)—may throttle its gaming experience. Some even believe that PC gaming performance will decrease by 25%. But as Windows 11 PCs become the talk of the tech community, gamers have trouble agreeing with this conclusion.

A decrease of 25% refers to drastic frame drops and laggy performance. And the culprit is Microsoft’s VBS feature. According to PC Gamer, test results make it even more explicit, with Horizon Zero Dawn dropping by about 25% when the VBS is turned on.

Gamification statistics state that the gaming industry has become embedded in the workforce, with 95% of employers asserting that they enjoy gaming-inspired moments at work. Even though many claim that Windows 11 is made for you if you’re a gamer, gamers need to watch out for this new feature. (Gamer fanatics spend much of their time searching for the best gaming laptop with specifications that fit their needs.)

What Are the Alternatives?

Microsoft explains: “VBS uses hardware virtualization features to create and isolate a secure region of memory from the normal operating system. Windows can use this ‘virtual secure mode’ to host a number of security solutions, providing them with greatly increased protection from vulnerabilities in the operating system, and preventing the use of malicious exploits which attempt to defeat protections.” The VBS feature was primarily planned for enterprise customers to lock down their corporate PCs to avoid getting compromised. This feature, however, is not automatically enabled on older OSs, but for those with a new OS, it’s automatically enabled.
