Our Methodology

In our quest to answer consumer questions about the best business travel credit cards, we took a closer look at the following criteria:

Features

A reputable travel credit card offers a variety of unique features. These may include excellent APR rates, offers of cash back and rewards, as well as reasonable repayment options on transactions made.

Other features can also be included, such as high-quality security, expense monitoring, mobile app accessibility, insurance, and rental car coverage.

Rewards

We compared the various benefit-earning structures available in our selection of business credit cards, addressing the following aspects to consider:

  • Will you earn points or miles per dollar?
  • How easy is it to redeem points?
  • What are the travel perks related to the card?
  • Will you get cashback?

Credit Score

Most credit card applications include a credit score review. The same applies when you apply for a travel business card. In addition, applications may assess your business credit rating or personal credit record if needed. Although a credit score of 650+ is best when applying for credit, some providers will issue secured or unsecured credit cards for clients with lower FICO scores. We looked at the requirements of each of the candidates and the related travel benefits and perks applicable to each.

Unfortunately, most high-rewards business travel credit cards require a good to excellent credit score. So even though we don’t have any business credit cards for startups with no credit options in this guide, there are still excellent options for businesses with good credit score ratings.

Application Process

Whether your business needs urgent working capital or needs start-up funds, applying for credit via a loan is not always a viable option. Instead, applying for a business travel credit card might be more successful. Applicants may apply by using their social security number or business tax ID.

The application process shouldn’t take longer than a few working days. Most of our top choices require as little as 30 minutes to apply and only a few hours before approval or denial is sent.

APR

Another aspect to consider when acquiring your travel card is the rate the Annual Percentage Rate is applied against the amount you are borrowing. Different APRs may be appropriate.

  • Introductory APR

We determined which card contenders offered an introductory APR—effectively charging no interest for a predetermined term (between 12 and 18 months).

  • Regular APR

Once the Introductory APR term has expired, a regular APR rate should become applicable. This is payable on all purchases, cash advance transactions, and money transfers.

  • Variable APR

The APR on a travel business credit card can be fixed or variable. Most interest rates are linked to the prime rate as a benchmark and follow the varying upward and downward trends.

The APR rate may also be adjusted to include penalty APR charges for late fees incurred by cardholders.

Business Credit Cards for Travel – Buyer’s Guide

How to Choose the Best Business Credit Cards for Travel

Before making a decision on a specific travel credit card, be sure to consider the following aspects:

  • Compare Bonus Categories

As an added incentive, many business credit cards pay bonuses in the form of business traveler perks, shipping concessions, advertising spending on social media and search engines, as well as internet, cable, and phone services advantages.

When choosing your preferred business credit card, scrutinize how one of these awards categories can influence your bottom line and save you money.

  • Compare Costs and Fees

The best travel business cards intend to alleviate high costs and cut expenditure. When choosing your favorite card, consider the cost of annual fees, the prevalence of foreign transaction fees, as well as costs chargeable on cash advances and balance transfers. And select the card that best suits your particular budget.

  • Choose Type of Rewards

Although people generally work to earn money, monetary perks are said to motivate them. The same can be said for the responsible use of a comparable business credit card.

If you’re sourcing the best business travel card that meets your needs, don’t neglect to check out the associated rewards. Frequent flyers score air travel miles, while other transactions attract welcome bonuses, cashback, discounted gift cards, or, in some instances, more practical benefits, such as car rental insurance.

Some credit cards allow your employees to travel and dine in luxury while they earn points and save the company money on luxury travel.

  • Applying

When applying for a credit card for your business, you must have the following information at hand:

  • The legal name of your business, with the site address and phone numbers
  • A tax ID or social security number
  • Information on your expected monthly expenditure
  • Details on the type of business and number of employees

Know your credit score, select the business travel credit card you prefer, and fill in the application. The service provider will assess your application in due course.

Flight-Related Perks With Travel Credit Cards

Everyone loves the idea of getting something for free. Travel credit cards provide a selection of user benefits:

  • Access to Lounge

Holders of prime travel credit cards automatically gain access to airport lounges globally. Before being allowed complimentary sanctuary, cardholders present valid cards or display a lounge access QR code on a digital device to gain entry.

  • Free Checked Bags

Checking bags before flying can be a major irritation and quite costly. But if you have any of the rated airline business cards, you automatically qualify for free bag checking.

  • Boarding Priority

Queuing with the general population when boarding a flight is not optimal. To overcome this inconvenience, holders of travel credit cards get preferential treatment and board first. This service also extends to companions of the cardholder.

  • Friend/Family Member Discounts

Many credit providers extend benefits and discounts to family members or friends of the primary user. For example, discounts may be applied to airline tickets or other flight benefits.

Hotel-Related Perks With Travel Credit Cards

Some of the best business credit cards for hotels include travel perks applicable to accommodation. On-site benefits often include:

  • Free Stuff

Apart from the apparent freebies—such as laundry service, slippers, and personal grooming products—business travelers are offered a wide variety of free goodies to encourage their return. Added perks include free Wi-Fi, meals or beer on tap, free Netflix, exercise gear, and even the opportunity to play DJ for a day.

  • Room Upgrade

Many hotels will upgrade guests to better, more luxurious accommodation when presented with a selection of prestigious, branded credit cards for hotels. Consequently, travelers are given VIP status, with benefits to match.

  • Flexible Check-In/Check-Out

Hotels are relatively rigid in their enforcement of checking in and out at certain times. But if you utilize your hotel travel card appropriately, you may qualify for elite status, which waives strict check-in policies.

  • Free Nights

A selection of premier hotels grants regular business customers free hotel rooms (usually one night per year) as an elite perk. Guests need to sign up for the hotel loyalty program to qualify.

Pros/Cons of Business Credit Card for Travel

Owning a business travel card is largely beneficial. But it’s recommended that users be aware of the downsides.

Pros

  • Travel Rewards

The most significant advantage of a travel credit card is the travel rewards one can amass to cut back on costs.

  • Revolving Credit

The flexibility of a credit card to use for business travel expenses is notable. Still, it gives access to business capital and covers initial revolving credit to fund trade expansion. Enabling more organized business finances is an added benefit.

  • Separating Business and Personal Affairs

Business owners can apply for a travel business credit card by allowing their credit records to be scrutinized. Nonetheless, separating business and personal monetary affairs by acquiring separate credit cards is beneficial in promoting sound business practices.

Cons

  • High Fees

A travel credit card worth its salt doesn’t come cheap. Annual fees, transaction costs, and additional charges can essentially egate its usefulness. Some credit cards have annual fees as high as $595 per year.

  • Above Average APR

The average APR for all US credit cards amounts to 15.56% – 22.87% annually. But airline and travel card APR may exceed this rate at times. The situation is further exacerbated with penalty APR rates added in the event of late payments received.

  • Limited Options of Redeem Points

As is true for credit cards for hotels, it’s often challenging to redeem points collectively. Points may be applied only at partnered company hotels and chains. Similar issues are apparent with equivalent airline cards.
